VR Solutions

Virtual Reality immerses trainees in a digital environment that simulates real-world scenarios. This immersion can enhance the learning experience by making trainees feel like they are actually in the situation they are learning about. This approach works well for dangerous situations and/or training that requires a lot of resources to simulate.

Why Use Virtual Reality in Training?

VR training platforms are increasingly being adopted by a growing range of businesses across various sectors. It’s ideal for:

  • Improving psychomotor skills
  • Building muscle memory and confidence
  • Training in a realistic and risk-free environment
  • Building operator familiarity and experience

SUNCOR

New operators that work in the large electrical stations on Suncor sites did not have any opportunity to have proper hands-on training on the process of racking out high voltage electrical panels. They were only able to observe experienced co-workers performing this task before having to perform this potentially risky task.

A VR simulation experience was created to immerse learners in the full process that an operator would be involved in for racking out a high-voltage electrical panel on-site. This training provides the hands-on practice that was previously not available to these employees, and it can be practiced in a risk-free virtual environment that can be repeated many different times.

BOW VALLEY COLLEGE

Students training in the college’s Hospital Clerk program go through an experiential learning module that simulates different people, alarms, and calls that they would encounter during a shift. This module is expensive and time consuming and includes a lot of logistical issues ranging from setting up an environment to hiring actors.

A VR Hospital Clerk Simulation was created that places the learner at a desk where they could take phone calls, hear loudspeaker messages, and interact with a variety of different people (I.E.: patients, security, family). These interactions were randomized to give scenarios to learners where they had to think and prioritize tasks as they came up. This VR module also eliminates the need for real-life simulation which saves time, budget, and logistical planning efforts.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic

The Mining Engineering Technology faculty at Saskatchewan Polytechnic wanted to enhance their hands-on student learning in surveying within an underground mine site. The school does not have access to a realistic underground mine setting and was currently using simulated areas on campus to review processes that would have to be applied on the job post-graduation.

A VR module was created to simulate the entire experience of underground surveying, starting from selecting proper tools and PPE before descending into the mine site. Detailed, to-scale virtual environments were created to immerse the students in a realistic setting where they could perform measurements using a functional version of a Total Station surveying device.

High Resolution 3D Models

Over the years, our 3D department has made a vast number of 3D models.

The complexity, detail, and effort required to develop 3D visualizations depend on your learning goals. We work with your stakeholders and subject matter experts to create 3D reproductions of the equipment which can be used for amazing learning experiences that would otherwise be impossible.

Our Process

PROJECT DESIGN

During this phase, TLN will create a detailed design document that includes script writing and detailed actions of the application.

UI DESIGN AND PROOF OF CONCEPT

UI/UX design is a visual representation that outlines the layout and structure of the XR application. Once this is approved, a Proof of Concept is put together for your review.

3D DEVELOPMENT

Running concurrently with the UX/UI Design phase, 3D models are created.

XR DEVELOPMENT

After the Proof of Concept approval, our XR Developer puts everything together and creates a working application.

DEPLOYMENT

Once the application passes testing and receives client approval, it is ready for launch.

SUPPORT HANDOVER & PROJECT CLOSE

At this stage we will introduce you to our Client Success Team that will meet with you for ongoing support.
